| CANBERRA BAND TAKES OUT THE BIG PRIZE !
A
17 year ACT band 'MI TIERRA' took out the finals at the Clave Contra
Clave (Live Latin Band Competition) in Sydney winning an huge cash
prize. |
Peruvian band leader Renier Rojas started his band as a hobby with his sons and niece first playing music popular in Peru; Cumbia, Merengue and tropical sounds then later delving into modern Cuban Timba music, which helped them rise to popularity becoming better and versatile musicians - perhaps contributing to their graceful win.
Renier says "...winning
feels awesome, but what really is great for us was just being part of
this first time event - all 15 bands are automatic winners in my eyes
just for entering."
What does winning mean for the future of Mi Tierra "...mainly recognition with audiences outside the Latin scene".
And how did you celebrate Renier? "...well of course with one guitar back at the hotel room in the
united company of other band members from the other bands, singing
together til 6am" he chuckles!
