BACK GROUND:
Tango Butterfly - Principal Dana Parker

Dana has a history of dance performance, choreography and teaching spanning over 2 decades. She has been a teacher of contemporary social Argentine tango in Australia since 2004, and has experience teaching tango classes, workshops and at festivals all around Australia.

Dana is trained in both lead and follow roles in many styles of Argentine tango and teaches with an emphasis on quality movement, connection with the music and awareness of social etiquette. Her aim is to maximise the intimate experience of tango, to be shared with others. Classes focus on building skills to allow individuals to bring themselves to the dance and to be active about developing a shared relationship with your partner in tango.

“Understanding the nature of movement, balance and energy is crucial for improvisational freedom.  Good technique is key.  Tango does not exist without connection with the music, with your partner, and with yourself.”

She has established “Tango Butterfly” in Melbourne as a dance studio dedicated to contemporary social Argentine Tango, with regular group classes, practicas and a Monday night milonga in Glen Iris.  Her studio has a secondary goal of supporting the broader Argentine Tango community in Melbourne and in Australia.
